Mouse of Silver

Deneen Fendig (Duncan’s mother)

Setting

The most intimate hour. Clancy journeys with his actual mother, interviewed days before her death, through birth, aging, dying, and a train where Ram Dass is waiting.

Transmission

Do not resist the flow of the river. Death opens the heart we closed to defend against pain. Personal story becomes universal myth. Just be here now is not a platitude. It is the only practice that survives every apocalypse.

I do think that we suffer more if we resist the flow of the river.

[Death] opens your heart. It breaks your heart open. Our hearts have been closed because we’ve closed them.

For the walk

  • The most intimate losses can become living transmission without being explained. What wants to breathe as medicine rather than only private grief?
  • After all the chaos, presence. What does that look like in the small repeated acts of a day?
