The Midnight Gospel

In the darkest, most catastrophic moments of our lives, if we just let ourselves surrender to what’s happening and fully face it right at that moment, there’s always love.

Duncan Trussell

A psychedelic transmission placed inside collapsing worlds. Wisdom that refuses to preach, arriving the way it actually arrives — doing the dishes, fleeing a simulation, holding a mother’s hand. There is always love available in the midnight.

  1. Episode 1 · Dr. Drew Pinsky

    Taste of the King

There are no inherently good or bad drugs — only contexts, intentions, and relationships to reality. Health is accepting and perceiving and dealing with reality on reality’s terms. Even when zombies are eating your guts, you can still be present.

  2. Episode 2 · Anne Lamott & Raghu Markus

    Officers and Wolves

Death is certain; the time of death is uncertain. Accepting this opens the heart. Through love, all pain can turn to medicine. “Meditate like Christ when he was nailed to the cross. He felt love, not pain.”

  3. Episode 3 · Damien Echols

    Hunters Without a Home

Magic is what you are when you train the mind. Prison became the teacher. Most people spend their lives feeding what they do not want. The goal of being human is to get as close to the divine as possible and then to radiate those rays.

  4. Episode 4 · Trudy Goodman

    Blinded by My End

Forgiveness is not loving your enemy or condoning harm. It is freeing your own heart from grudge, resentment, anger, and ill-will. Close both eyes to see with the other eye.

  5. Episode 5 · Jason Louv

    Annihilation of Joy

The relinquishing of the idea of an individual, separate self is the perception of emptiness and the fundamental clear light of existence. Not nihilism. The bardo loop continues as long as we cling to a fixed identity.

  6. Episode 6 · David Nichtern

    Vulture with Honor

Meditation is not a perfectly cleared mind. It is making space and seeing what is actually here. You are not quite connecting to everything, and that is okay. Do not cork yourself. Meet the vulture with honor.

  7. Episode 7 · Caitlin Doughty

    Turtles of the Eclipse

Death is not the problem. Our industrialized, profit-driven relationship to death — and our refusal to look — is what creates so much unnecessary suffering. False enlightenment is just ego in better clothes.

  8. Episode 8 · Deneen Fendig (Duncan’s mother)

    Mouse of Silver

Do not resist the flow of the river. Death opens the heart we closed to defend against pain. Personal story becomes universal myth. Just be here now is not a platitude. It is the only practice that survives every apocalypse.

The Midnight Gospel ends not with answers but with presence. After every explosion, every loop, every clown factory and zombie choir, the characters find themselves on a train together — and the only instruction that survives is Ram Dass’s: Just be here now. You are not being offered escape from the simulation. You are being offered high-quality company inside it.
